Based on the Disney movie, and set in New York City at the turn of the century, this Tony Award winning, high energy musical is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, the leader of a ragged band of "newsies." Jack dreams of a better life but when publishing titans raise distribution prices at the newsboys' expense, he rallies "newsies" from across the city to strike for what's right.

"... The book’s weaknesses don’t amount to much whenever the boards are thundering with the passions of the strike, or the boys sing out for justice in “The World Will Know” or “Seize the Day.” “King of New York” sets Act II off on a solid trajectory to the expected happy ending. Once again we come away in awe at a collective work of live, homegrown musical entertainment. What a treasure Howard County has been blessed with in Toby’s Dinner Theatre."

"...As the lead actor, Matt Hirsh, playing Jack Kelly, is sensational throughout. He demonstrates proficient acting skills where he exhibits the right amount of rage without going over the top and also shows tender, emotional vulnerability while consistently maintaining a New York accent. His singing ability is off the charts with a smooth, resonant and powerful tenor voice that is evident in such songs as “Santa Fe,” “The World We Know,” “I Never Planned on You/Don’t Come A-Knocking” and “Something to Believe In”—a touching duet with MaryKate Brouillet."
