Macbeth

Macbeth

Folger Theatre
201 East Capitol Street, SE Washington

A bloodthirsty cycle of corruption and betrayal begins when the much-loved king of Scotland is murdered by his trusted ally Macbeth. Shakespeare's murderous tragedy is seen anew in Davenant's Restoration-era adaptation, now set in London's notorious Bedlam asylum. In this violent, tragic thriller, Macbeth achieves the power he thinks he deserves, but the price is high. His conscience is nagging him, as is his ambitious wife. Not to mention the grim prophecy that doesn't exactly spell out a happy ending for Macbeth. It turns out that power achieved by bloodshed can only be maintained by more bloodshed and Macbeth hurtles towards a violent confrontation that could be his doom. This unique production of Macbeth at Washington DC's Folger Theatre, with music performed by Folger Consort, features Helen Hayes Award-winners Ian Merrill Peakes and Kate Eastwood Norris as the tragically ambitious Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.
