"...The combination of extraordinary acrobatic feats, industrial-strength artsy visuals and mysterious wispy narrative is vintage Cirque du Soleil. But “Volta” — which premiered in Montreal in 2017 — purports to have its own distinctive vision, with a recurrent theme of street sports. That motif is not always apparent, but it certainly surfaces in certain scenes, such as a tour de force of stunt-cycling in which riders pull off bat-out-of-hell slaloms, wheelies and aerial swivels along a transparent cradle."

"...At the end the cast comes out into the audience and high-fives everyone within reach. It’s so cool and so fitting, because dramatically and spectacularly, Volta is unadulterated vicarious liberation."

"...Cirque shows do more than just throw act after act at you-they tell a cohesive story. And Volta follows Waz, a young man with blue feathers for hair, who is tired of being made fun of by a group known as the Greys. He seeks out fame and fortune at the Mr. Wow Show and it's there we see the action come to life."
