Who knew a wedding dress code could spark so much drama? Written by comic and YouTube sensation Drew Droege and directed by Michael Urie (Ugly Betty), this raucous one-man show follows Gerry, the disenchanted friend of an about-to-be-married gay couple, whose request to "refrain from wearing Bright Colors and Bold Patterns" at their Palm Springs nuptials leaves him with plenty to say about the state of stereotypes, relationships and same-sex marriage - all while he drunkenly soaks in a pool with his ex and his ex's younger boyfriend. Don't sleep on this "uproarious, bittersweet exploration of the gay soul" (The New Yorker) when it comes to Washington D.C.'s Studio Theatre - Milton Theatre.

"...Given the title, one might hope that the solo show “Bright Colors and Bold Patterns” would have be more tonally variegated. But the same expressive timbre too often prevails in this admittedly funny dramatic rant, written by Drew Droege, directed by Michael Urie and staged as part of Studio Theatre’s “Showroom” series."

"...Ultimately, Bright Colors and Bold Patterns is the perfect embodiment of Studio's stated goals for the SHOWROOM series: something a little lighter and a bit more intimate than its mainstage productions. The drinks (real and of the prop variety) were flowing, the air-conditioning was blasting, and the audience's laughter-much of which had the tinge of recognition that often passes between members of the LGBTQ+ community at shows like this-was offered genuinely and freely. I can certainly think of worse ways to spend a swelterng evening in the city."

"...Bursting with funny lines and cutting asides, Hiller directs his nonstop monologue to a couple of deck chairs alongside a Palm Springs pool and does so so realistically we can almost picture his two hapless listeners are lounging, nodding their heads (and probably laughing a lot). One is an ex-lover who brought his much younger new flame, and Gerry is out to make a big flamboyant impression at first."
